More and more people are calling on The Salvation Army for help because of rising food, electricity and petrol prices. Many of our clients are facing tremendous hardship and struggle even to put food on the table. And it’s often the children who suffer the most when household budgets don’t stretch far enough.
Food assistance is just one of the packages of care that we offer. We carry out a needs-based assessment with every person who comes in for welfare assistance to identify any other areas where we can also help, including preparing a household budget.
We are thrilled to announce that we are now a hub in Lower Hutt for The Foodbank Project – Click Here to learn more.
There are criteria for obtaining a food parcel:
- Photo identification
- Verification of your address ie power bill
- Bank statement or WINZ letter
- If you have been here before please let reception know and bring with you a letter from WINZ regarding your entitlements.
The food bank is a multi-purpose place. As we get to know clients we find out there are other issues in their lives to resolve. Hence we offer services such as budget advice, counselling, prayer, mentoring and lifeskills programmes. We are then able to offer them assistance in any of these areas if they are interested. More importantly, we have a God given opportunity to also feed their souls with hope and purpose through the gospel, showing them that their past doesn’t have to be their future. God has a new life for those in need and their families.
